QV-AutoCam/Casio Digital Cameras FAQs

Q. I have a "Memory Error" on my camera. Help!
A.
Earlier Casio cameras sometimes manage to corrupt their flash-RAM, and this leads to a memory error. If you can still communicate with the camera using QV-AutoCam, try deleting all of the pictures from the camera and then resetting. If this doesn't work, try using holding down the [ZOOM] and [DEL] buttons and turning the power on. Be sure to use fresh batteries or an AC pack before trying this!

MEMORY ERROR #1 ... You can reset on some models of camera
MEMORY ERROR #2 ... You can reset on some models of camera, but all images will be lost.
MEMORY ERROR #3 ... You can't reset this one with buttons. Contact us..

Q. I can't get the camera communicating with the PC. Why is the "Port Not Available" in the Connection Wizard
A.
There are two main reasons why a port may be shown as "Port Not Available". The first is that the port does not exist in the computer (no hardware) or that it is incorrectly configured. If this is the case then you will normally get Error #2 ,#6 or #31.

The second reason that you might get "Port Not Available" is that some other program or driver is using the port. This shows as Error #5. Things to look for which might be causing a conflict:

  • Mouse driver
  • Modem driver
  • FAX driver
  • QV-Link, QV-TWAIN (or even another copy of QV-AutoCam)
  • Any other program or driver which might be accessing a serial port.

If you can't solve this problem yourself, contact BeauSoft and we can help you.

Q. I can't get the camera communicating with the PC. What is a "Read Error" in the connection wizard
A.
A "Read Error" is caused when the Connection Wizard received the wrong response from a port. This usually means that there is some other device connected to the port, for example, a Modem.

If you can't solve this problem yourself, contact BeauSoft and we can help you.

Q. Adobe PhotoShop can't read the JPEG files produced by QV-AutoCam.
A.
Some older programs cannot read "progressive" JPEG files. These are becoming popular on the WWW because you can see a rough outline of the image when only 20% has downloaded. QV-AutoCam can produce either progressive or normal JPEGs -- use the "Progressive JPEG" switch on the Picture Panel.

Q. Will there be a Mac / Windows 3.1 version of QV-AutoCam ?
A.
Sorry, no. QV-AutoCam is designed to take advantage of the new features of the Win32 API. As such it will only run on Windows95/98 and Windows NT.

Q. How do I disable the Automatic Power Off on a QV-10?
A.
You can disable APO, but only until you turn the camera off. Here's how:

  1. Hold down the MODE and SHUTTER buttons and turn the power on; Display should say TEST MODE

  2. Press PROTECT and DEL; this brings up a menu (BLACK, COLOR BAR and APO OFF)

  3. Use the + button to select APO OFF ; press the shutter button to select.

This feature is almost completely useless, as a camera reset enables the APO again. When you are using QV-AutoCam Automatic Camera, the power will not turn off as the program keeps the camera awake.

Q. How do I get the best quality prints ?
A.
One of the main things that determines the quality of printed pictures is the paper that you use. High-quality photo glossy paper can produce superb results even with inexpensive inkjet printers.

You can ensure that the best possible image is sent to the printer by using these settings:

  • Check to see whether you get the best picture with the automatic "color correction" on or off

  • Use the retoucher to adjust the image if required

  • Set up the printer properly. This will depend on your printer, but normally you will need to set the correct paper type (especially important if you are using glossy paper), paper size and orientation. Some printers will let you set up a special "photo" mode.

Q. What about Upgrades
A.
We send out AutoCam News by e-mail every time an new or updated version is available. You can download the new version and install. There is no need to un-install your old version.

All upgrades are free if you download them yourself. If you prefer we can ship you a CD or disks containing updated software and documentation each time a new version is released. A subscription lasts for one year or two updates (whichever is longer).

The Upgrade CDs contain the latest versions of EZ-AutoCam and QV-AutoCam, plus documentation and documentation viewers. You can also use the CD to create floppy disk install kits to allow installation onto computers that don't have CD drives.
